Anne Frank Tree Sapling - it's arrived!

KOMO News - Anne Frank Tree sapling arrives in SeattleThe Holocaust Center, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, was one of 11 organizations chosen to receive a sapling from the original Anne Frank Tree. After more than 3 years in quarantine, the sapling has arrived in Seattle! It will remain in the care of Seattle Parks and Recreation until it is ready to plant in the spring of 2014. Stay tuned for more details about the planting ceremony!

Obama learns about our Holocaust Center!

In one of the most emotionally powerful moments of President Obama’s historic visit to Israel, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, former chief Rabbi of Israel and chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv addressed the US President at Yad Vashem, Israel’s National Holocaust Museum on March 21. Rabbi Lau, the youngest survivor of Buchenwald, shared with President Obama an experience he had while visiting the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center in Seattle last year. He related how Leo Hymas, one of the US soldiers who liberated Buchenwald begged for Rabbi Lau’s forgiveness for coming too late to liberate the camps.

 

Holocaust Writing/Art/Digital Media Contest 2013!

The contest is now closed and judges are reviewing the hundreds of submissions received!  The finalists will be announced in mid-May!  Support from the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.

Washington State Teachers - the US Holocaust Memorial Museum wants to give you $1000 to attend the Belfer National Conference for Educators in July in Washington DC!   

Akiva Kenny Segan Art Exhibit - on display at Hillel UW, March 20 - May 21.  "Under the Wings of G-d and Sightseeing with Dignity" - exhibits explore the Holocaust and human rights.  Artists reception, speakers, and tours - Sunday, April 7, 1-5pm.

Jan Karski Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Summer Certificate Program for Educators, 2013. July 14 - 20, 2013.  Georgetown University.
