Yom Hashoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day - Tacoma
Thursday, May 1, 2008. 7:30 pm.
Memorial candlelighting and brief service followed by Dr. Heather Mathews, Assistant Professor of Art at Pacific Lutheran University, who will present "Monumental Art and the Memory of the Holocaust," examining how Germany has commemorated the Holocaust in art and architecture. Never Again, Again: The Darfur Crisis
May 3, 2008. Intiman Theater, Seattle. 4:30 pm.

Free event is presented in association with Intiman's production of "The Diary of Anne Frank." Panel discussion including Diane Baer (Save Darfur), Mawut Mayen (one of the "Lost Boys" from Southern Sudan), and Ben Weintraub (STAND).

Gasana Mutesi: Post-Conflict Africa

After losing their parents to genocide in Africa’s Great Lakes region, Gasana Mutesi and her husband, Charles Nkazamyambi, founded Amani Africa, a grassroots organization in Rwanda dedicated to establishing sustainable peace by engaging young people in the reconciliation process. Mutesi talks about the hopeful results being realized by African grassroots organizations and highlights Amani Africa’s community–centered approach to reconciliation combining education, economic empowerment, and human rights promotion.
