Teaching about the Holocaust: A Seminar for Educators
Offered twice a year in various Washington State locations by the Washington State
Holocaust Education Resource Center.
Teaching about the Holocaust will provide attendees with a strong background of
Holocaust history and related issues. Seminars are lead by local "master teachers"
who have attended various professional development programs both in the US and abroad.
Topics covered include but are not limited to: Historical Overview of the Holocaust
and/or Rise of the Nazi Party, Resistance and Rescue during the Holocaust, Activities
for the Classroom, Guidelines for Teaching the Holocuast, and the Holocaust and
Human Rights. Seminars conclude with a presentation and question and answer period
with a Holocaust survivor.

Arthur and Rochelle Belfer National Conference for Educators
Offered each summer in Washington D.C. at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Middle- and high-school educators with less than five years of experience teaching
about the Holocaust are invited to apply to attend this conference. (Educators with
five or more years’ experience teaching about the Holocaust should apply to participate
in the Museum Teacher Fellowship program.)

Museum Teacher Fellowship Program
Offered each year in Washington D.C. at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
This program, formerly known as the Mandel teacher Fellowship Program, invites
skilled secondary school teachers to join a national corps of teachers who serve
as leaders in Holocaust education in their schools, communities, and professional
organizations. Participants in this program create outreach projects to advance
Holocaust education. This program pays all expenses for travel and costs for a weeklong
institute and follow-up conference at the Museum in Washington D.C.

Jewish Foundation for the Righteous Summer Institute
Offered each year in
New York by the Jewish
Foundation for the Righteous.
Each year the Holocaust Center selects two teachers to send to the JFR Summer Institute.
The JFR was established to fulfill the traditional commitment to hakarat hatov, the searching out and recognition of goodness. The JFR provides financial assistance to aged and needy non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. The JFR educates teachers and students about the history of the Holocaust and Rescue.
